February 7th Rankings

Not many top players in action this week, as they recover from the year's first slam. One of the few playing was David Nalbandian, whose loss in Santiago dropped one spot, to 8th, with Wawrinka moving above him into 7th.

South African tennis fans can celebrate a great home win this week, as Kevin Anderson broke a six year drought for his country in ATP tournaments. The field was quite weak, but he overcame one of the tournament's hotter players, Mannarino, in the semifinals.

Robredo continued his strong 2011 by winning in Santiago, though the story of the week came in his semifinal match with Fognini, which ended in some very acrimonious circumstances, as Robredo refused to shake the Italian's fan. Still, Robredo's solid week, with several top 100 wins, was quite impressive.

The most unexpected winner of the week came in Zagreb, where Dodig, a 26-year-old journeyman, took the title. It was hardly an easy run, either, as he beat 5 top 100 players, including some solid opposition in Ljubicic and Garcia-Lopez.

Riser of the Week (top 100):
Ivan Dodig CRO (74), Up 16
Dodig got a short mention last week, as the only player to take a set from Djokovic in Melbourne, but it's a long way from that match to this, his first career ATP title at the age of 26. He moves well into the top 100, thanks to those nice wins over GGL and Ljubicic.

Riser of the Week (other):
Marius Copil ROU (243), Up 52
Copil, who turned 20 late last year, is a potential rising player, and has had a great start to 2011, making the final of a futures event in Germany, and then winning the challenger in Kazan. To take the title, he beat a host of German talent in Andreas Beck (140), Dominik Meffert (167) and Simon Stadler (234).

Dropper of the Week (top 100):
Feliciano Lopez ESP (55), Down 12
Lopez won the tournament in Johannesburg last year, beating Gael Monfils (13) along the way, but wasn't able to repeat his success this year, falling in the first round to Canadian Frank Dancevic (131). Without that win, Lopez was unable to hang in the top 50, taking a large fall.

Dropper of the Week:
Stephane Robert FRA (129), Down 34
Robert came from nowhere to crack the top 100 last season, with one of his biggest results coming in Joburg, where he beat David Ferrer (6) en route to the final, where he fell to Lopez. After that result, though, he never did anything of note at ATP level, and lost badly in the first round this week, against Izak van der Merwe (220).
