David Ferrer took the 500 level title in Acapulco. He had two fairly easy matches to open the tournament, but then had three games against seeded teams, with all three taking him to three sets. However, he pulled out victories in all matches, including coming from behind against Monaco and Dolgopolov.
Juan Martin del Potro isn't yet ranked, as he's not at the 25-match cutoff, but based on his recent results, it looks like he's rounding back into form, and he should be back in the top 25 soon enough. He had an excellent week at Delray Beach, not dropping a set. Only one serious challenge was there, in Mardy Fish, but del Potro still did well to take the title.
The biggest event of the week was in Dubai, where Novak Djokovic continued his run as the hottest player on tour in 2011. He faced four top 30 opponents, and while he lost a set in the semis to Berdych, he took a relatively easy win over Federer in the final.
Challengers:
Casablanca: Evgeny Donskoy RUS (167) d. #7 Alessio di Mauro ITA (118)
Wolfsburg: Ruben Bemelmans BEL (143) d. Dominik Meffert GER (149)
Futures:
Turkey F6: Cedrik-Marcel Stebe GER (231)
Croatia F2: Nikola Mektic CRO (239)
USA F5: Nicholas Monroe USA (320)
Australia F1: James Lemke AUS (334)
Riser of the Week (top 100):
Florian Mayer GER (26), Up 8
Mayer has quietly had a solid season this year, and is working his way up into the top 25. He had two wins this week in Dubai, beating Jarkko Nieminen (45) and Andrey Golubev (60), before losing to the eventual champion, Djokovic.
Riser of the Week (other):
Evgeny Donskoy RUS (167), Up 52
Donskoy's win in Casablanca moves him into the top 200, as he racked up some very solid wins. He beat Alessio di Mauro (118) in the final, but also took out Bastian Knittel (164), Olivier Patience (166) and Jaroslav Pospisil (104).
Dropper of the Week (top 100):
Ernests Gulbis LAT (34), Down 7
After a couple of early losses in recent tournaments, Gulbis did manage a win in Dubai, before losing to Sergiy Stakhovsky (58). Last year, though, he had won the Delray Beach tournament, and without that victory he falls away from the top 25.
Dropper of the Week (other):
Henri Kontinen FIN (211), Down 33
Odd for such a young player to be featured here, but the 20-year-old Finn dropped after losing a Futures win from last season that saw him beat Alexander Peya (243) and Dennis Bloemke (273).
