The Frenchman was the hero of the hour for the French, as he stepped in to win two huge Davis Cup matches, ensuring victory in the tie. He beat Jurgen Melzer (14) impressively in the first rubber, then, in the final, decisive match, he held on against Martin Fischer (184) and the Austrian supporters.

Jack Sock USA (397), Up 69
An 18-year-old American talent, Sock moved into the top 400 with a nice showing at the Dallas challenger, where he beat two experienced pros in Rik de Voest (142) and Bjorn Phau (105) to make the semifinals.

Dropper of the Week (top 100):
Janko Tipsarevic (34), Down 7
Tipsarevic had one of the least likely losses in the World Group, as he dropped a straight sets match at home against Somdev Devvarman (141) in straight sets. He then managed to win the final dead rubber, but it was over a lowly ranked player, and didn't give him any benefit.

The 33-year-old Frenchmen is one of the older pros still out there, but his best is clearly past him. He took a very bad loss this week, falling to Stefan Seifert (n/a), and dropping well away from the top 100.
