May 16th Rankings

After stretching his winning streak even further in Rome, Novak Djokovic ascends to the position of world #1, surpassing Rafael Nadal following beating the Spaniard in the final. The other change in the top 10 sees a big rise for Mardy Fish, who comes up 4 places to 9th, dropping Stanislas Wawrinka from the top 10.

Winners:

Rome
#2 Novak Djokovic SRB (1)

2nd round Lukasz Kubot POL (118) | 6-0 6-3
3rd round #14 Stanislas Wawrinka SUI (11) | 6-4 6-1
Quarters #5 Robin Soderling SWE (4) | 6-3 6-0
Semis #4 Andy Murray GBR (5) | 6-1 3-6 7-6(2)
Final #1 Rafael Nadal ESP (2) | 6-4 6-4
Average Opponent Rank 28.0

Djokovic came as close to losing as he has all year in Rome, but not, as you might expect, against Nadal. The Djokovic-Murray semifinal will likely end up as one of the year's best matches, as the Serbian seemed to be down and out, before rallying spectacularily. He also ruthlessly beatdown two top 11 players to get to that point, and wasn't in too much trouble against Nadal in the final.
