It was status quo at Roland Garros this year, with Rafael Nadal beating Roger Federer in the final. It was Federer who had the most impressive win of the week, though, ending Novak Djokovic's long season-opening win streak. There was no change in the rankings, though, as Nadal repeated his title, and Djokovic and Federer both improved from quarterfinal showings last year. Andy Murray, the fourth semifinalist, moved up to #4, displacing Robin Soderling, who dropped a final from last year. David Ferrer also moved up one place to 6th, switching spots with Juan Martin del Potro, who lost to Djokovic.
The big riser of the top 10 was Gael Monfils, who came up three spots to 8th after replacing a second round loss from last year qith a quarterfinal loss to Federer. He switched spots with David Nalbandian, who fell out of the top 10 after withdrawing from the event.

Rafael Nadal got a real scare in the first round, when he was taken to five sets by big serving John Isner, a real rarity for Nadal in Paris. However, after losing a couple of tiebreak starts, Nadal managed to find his game, and won fairly handily in the final couple of sets. He then cruised some easy players before beating Soderling and Murray easily, and eventually prevailing of Federer in a final that was closer than some have been between the two in recent years.

Riser of the Week (top 100):
Alejandro Falla COL (88), Up 22
Falla didn't have a bad RG last year, beating Janko Tipsarevic (28) before going out to Roger Federer (3). This year, his decreased ranking meant he was forced to go through the qualies, which he did successfully, before making some progress in the main draw. He got to the fourth round, and beating Potito Starace (50), Florian Mayer (20) and Lukasz Kubot (84), eventually falling to Juan Ignacio Chela (29).
Riser of the Week (other):
Antonio Veic CRO (171), Up 42
The 23-year-old Croat had a dream week in Paris, getting some solid wins in the qualifiers over Horacio Zeballos (133) and Simone Bolelli (112), then pushing on in the main draw, upsetting Pablo Cuevas (49) and Nikolay Davydenko (46), before getting badly beaten by Nadal in round 3.
Dropper of the Week (top 100):
Jurgen Melzer AUT (19), Down 6
Melzer had a magical run in Paris last year, getting two huge wins over David Ferrer (6) and Novak Djokovic (1), before going out in the semifinals to Rafael Nadal (2). This week, he had a lot less success, losing in a major second round upset to Lukas Rosol (102), sending him well away from the top 10.
Dropper of the Week (other):
Julian Reister GER (135), Down 38
Reister was another player who had a good Paris run, qualifying and making the third round last year, beating Carlos Berlocq (72), Olivier Rochus (89) and Feliciano Lopez (25). This year, he lost first round, going out in straights to Viktor Troicki (14).
